Be Prepared!

Only a very confident woman would post a picture of herself in a hairnet, but I figured the message of getting prepared was more important than my vanity. I stole this great picture from Patrice and I hope she will count this as a visiting teaching gift :) These beauties are Patrice, Lori, Michelle and Brenda. Forgive me ladies!

Once a month the Mesa cannery has products available to can for food storage. I know I'm kind of nerdy but I love to go to the cannery. There is such a great feeling of working together and then to take the food home to add to storage. I used to wonder what on earth could happen that I wouldn't be able to go to the store but lately more scenarios are happening like swine flu, contaminated beef, bad spinach, infected tomatoes, truck strikes, inflated gas prices, job losses and on and on and on. I don't question anymore. The possibilities are endless of how quickly we could be without food and water.  I'm lucky that I have been counseled and warned that if I'm prepared I shall not fear. Birdie Sling

I saw this cute purse and just had to make it! It's an Amy Butler pattern and I made it out of "Neptune" by Tula Pink. It was a ton of fun to make but this one takes some time. May not be for beginners.

Blog Vacation

Ok, so I haven't bloged for awhile. Life is busy and I just didn't get to it. Today was my favorite day of the month and the real "MOTHERS DAY". Yes.... it was quilt group!  I finished two quilts for show-n-tell and it feels so good to get things done and out of the closet. So here are my quilts. The Pinwheel quilt was hand appliqued and one I have been working on for about a year now. It is a great pattern to drag around to all those appointments that we all have to go to. Applique is relaxing to me and gives a great curve to quilts that you just can't get otherwise.

 

This next little table topper is a pattern by Miss Rosie. It was so fun and quick to make except that I did make a big boo boo. Can you see it?

Another year passes and our lives are blessed by the "MARS"! Last night we had a blast celebrating the birthdays of Marae and Marene. We had lots of family, quilt friends, hair customers and more come by to say hi. It was a great night and the food was wonderful despite the fact that the twins had nothing to do with it. That must mean they trained us well.   WE LOVE YOU BOTH and

Moda Bakeshop

If you haven't checked out Moda Bakeshop and your a "crafty/quilter" you are missing out on some great free patterns. Over Spring break my daughter-in-law Ashley and I made these fun baskets. I just finished mine in time for easter. Check out the bakeshop on my sidebar. Also, the third times a charm because for the month of February I finally WON the fabricmatcher contest. I'm waiting for my prize from MODA to arrive any day now. I'll try to post a picture of my creation.

Thanks so much for all of your "grammy" traditions. It's so great to know that grandmas everywhere are building relationships with their sweet grand-kids. The first winner is LIBBY JONES. I loved her idea about giving the kids a book for their birthdays and Christmas. I don't know any child that does not want to sit and be read to. It also sounds like a wonderful way to build a collection of books that can be kept for years and years. I'll be sending you the fun patriotic topper.

The second winner is LESA MARTINSON. Her idea about taking the kids out for a special birthday dinner at a place of their choice sounded so fun to me. My grand-kids don't live where I live but I can still start this tradition when I see them. I think all kids like that time when they don't have to share the spotlight with anyone. I found this poem today and it really hit home for me since my oldest son Parker gave me my first grand daughter Livee.

My Child's Child

a journey in my mind today '
I watch the years fly, where is my little boy?
The pictures that tell a story how you grew so fast.
Once a little boy with trucks and slides
to fill your day.
A grown man now who changed his name.
A precious little flower,
a kiss from heaven was born today.
She'll call him Daddy, looking in her eyes,
his Reflection he will see.
Finally, he will understand the love I feel for him.

Quilt Group Quilts

Now to quilt day. Six of us had our tops done and ready to show. So here's what we did. We took the pattern "Merry-G0-Round" by American Jane Patterns and each picked a pattern line or fabric from our stash to complete the quilt top. It was so fun to see how different they all turned out.

Marene

She used these fun fabrics from her stash.  She backed it with a lime green checked Minke.

 

Marae

She used Prairie Paisley with a few other added RED, WHITE and BLUES.

 

Michelle

I used a wild line called Park Slope. I also backed my quilt with Lime Green checked Minke.

Carol

Carol used Cotton Blossoms by cute Camille.

 

Elaine

"Peace On Earth" is what Elaine used for her beautiful Christmas quilt.

 

Heidi

Heidi put a little different twist and sized it down for her new gran-daughter. She used "Recess". Isn't it adorable?

 

Marae (my cute mom) quilted 3 of our quilts so far. It's hard to see the darling pattern but she did an amazing job. THANKS MOM!
